United States, 1991
A child named Jayden and his brother, Ju Han are coerced as street beggers by a criminal gang. One day, the boys failed to earn enough money and were beaten black and blue. In an attempt to save his brother, Jayden accidentally shoots the gang leader and passes out. Meanwhile, a man named Lee Joong Go (Lee Duk Hwa) takes in Jayden and tells him to turn away from his dark past, naming him, Cha Jae Wan to mark a new beginning. Joong Go tells Jae Wan he is the son of a wealthy hotelier named Ah Sung Won (Choi Sang Hoon from Something About 1%) who abandoned him and even caused the death of his mother. Jae Wan grew up hating Sung Won and vows to avenge his deceased mother.
South Korea, present day
Cha Jae Wan (Lee Dong Wook) works as General Manager of 7-star hotel, Hotel Ciel, owned by Ah Sung Won. One day, Jae Wan finally confronts Sung Won and divulges his identity but Sung Won denies their kinship. Moments later, Sung Won dies in a freak accident without Jae Wan ever being declared as his son.
After Sung Won's death, his daughter, Ah Mo Ne (Lee Da Hae) appears at Hotel Ciel and takes on the challenge of managing the hotel. Though Mo Ne acts arrogant and eccentric, she actually comes to seek evidence on the suspicious death of her father whilst protecting the company.
